Editorial: Kids & Co. should get a very close look
While all sorts of programs and services for people seem to stay afloat, albeit often with financial strains on government budgets, those for kids seem to constantly take it on the chin in Arizona.

Letter: Organizers good only at redistribution
EDITOR:

The July 12 letter from my friend Bob Fiske criticizes Bob Weiss for his "lack of understanding what community organizing is all about" and then continues by saying that "the primary aim of community organizers is to enable and empower ordinary people to take charge of their own lives."

Letter: Alinsky defense was way off target
EDITOR:

Bob Fiske (Daily Courier, July 12) may have intended to challenge Alinsky's "rules of dirty politics" -- as presented by Bill Weiss -- but unfortunately he totally failed to refute even one of Mr. Alinsky's published (and well-known) strategies for undermining our republic.

The political right calls Obama a socialist, which is true, but only in the sense that he is president of the world's first socialist republic.

On Wednesday we told you about the refunds due Transwestern Pipeline Company, with many area government entities and school districts footing the bill (or paybacks).

Column: Investment in Prescott jail will pay off
Conservatives have a well-justified reputation of opposing tax increases. While this is generally true, it isn't always the case.

Letter: Minor offenses have major repercussions
Someone is playing games with the Army's military justice system by creating an administrative walk-around assuring that certain Article 15s (nonjudicial punishments) are criminally treated as Article 32s (serious offenses)

Ready access to all that public libraries offer has been cherished by Americans since the opening of the first public library in Boston in 1854.

Editorial: Incentivizing law was short-sighted
A couple of very small school districts will have to repay a very large portion of a tax refund that was the result of a mistake not of their doing, and yet another example of unintended consequences.

Letter: Helpers showed small town's charms
EDITOR:

While walking the morning of June 27, about 9 a.m., near McDonald's restaurant on Highway 69, I took a fall. Before I could get up, two men jumped from their cars and helped me up and to a shady spot. They then helped cleaned blood off my mouth and hand.

Letter: Rodeo is improper place for politics
EDITOR:

I went to the rodeo. It was an entertaining evening with pageantry, horses, bucking broncos, and talented cowboys and cowgirls. However, I find it disturbing that one of Prescott's premier family and tourist events has ugly political overtones.

Letter: Employment stats can be misleading
EDITOR:

In the Daily Courier was an article that the unemployment rate was 6.1 percent. So I decided to research the matter. I went to the Bureau of Statistic website to see if I could find the info. Well, it seemed that there where a hundred different charts.

Letter: Argument for legal pot needs facts
EDITOR:

I take exception to the opinions of Toni Denis regarding the decriminalization of pot, as presented in The Daily Courier of July 9. Her opening remarks are clear conjecture regarding the potential sentencing of a 19-year-old selling brownies laced with hash oil.

The Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System is one of the pension plans that has been under scrutiny because of the financial burden they appear to place on municipalities, which contribute, along with their public safety employees, to this retirement benefit packages.

Letter: Only God can sustain America
EDITOR:

Thank you for including Hobby Lobby's page in the Courier commemorating the Fourth of July - "'Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,' Psalms 33:12." As we celebrate the birth of our nation, it is with thankfulness that we can read sentiment by our founding fathers, such as Patrick Henry, who stated that, "There is a just God who presides over the destinies of nations."
