Taking responsibility when others won't

Anyone planning to vote in the Arizona governor's race Nov. 7 should ponder the story of two people in a rowboat in the middle of a deep lake.

If the boat springs a leak and both people in the boat say it's the other person's job and no one plugs the hole, one or both of the occupants will drown.

In theory, stopping illegal immigration is the federal government's job, but it's not doing it. Somebody has to do it, or Arizona's schools, hospitals and other social services will drown.

Gov. Janet Napolitano has been more show than substance on the border, pointing a finger at the federal government and, in effect, waiting for Santa Claus.

Len Munsil has promised to make the border a priority no matter whose job it is and to get something done about the steady flow of illegal aliens into the state.

He also has pledged to stress excellence in education rather than throwing more money at the problem re-gardless of the system's performance.

Finally, he wants to reduce the size of government. He deserves a chance to fix problems that have goneunattended far too long.

What were the Republicans doing about illegal immigration when Fife Symington and Jane Hull were governors of this state?

The Daily Courier has once again demonstrated that the editor lacks logical thought and fails to understand that the role of governor is more far reaching than the issue of immigration, which is a federal and not a state issue. Gov. Napolitano has demanded that Sen. Kyl and Rep. Renzi take action. They have done nothing. Purporting to represent the views of a newspaper without an editorial board review is simply not good journalism. In terms of education, as one of the most poorly funded states in the nation Mr. Munsil's statements regarding excellence are nothing more than soundbite rhetoric. Napolitano has produced more for the children of Arizona than any prior governor. This so-called newspaper is little more than a pandering voice of the radical right in Prescott. This is the primary reason the paper is only able to reach a minority of homes in the area. Advertisers should take note of this fact and respond according.

Unfortunatly Len Musil lacks experience on solving such a problem. I too can promise to stop illegal immegration, unfortunatly wouldn't even know where to start. Lots of promises don't make good candidates.

If Munsell should win, I guess he could stay in a Holiday Inn then be governor; he has no political experence. AZ doen't need a wanabee for our leader.

It is so refreshing to see the news media actually look at the issues for a change and weigh them without bias. Janet Napolitano is a failure when it comes to being governor. Len Munsil is a proven Republican leader and will do what he has promised. The choice is yours, stay in a sinking boat that is overcrowded by illegeals or choose a new boat that is not sinking and will fight illegal immigration. The choise is easy!
