Too bad government doesn't listen to its consumers the way Wal-Mart does.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., announced it would stop selling guns in about one-third of its U.S. stores, according to The Associated Press. Good job. The reason for the retail giant halting sales is simple economics. In the stores that don't sell enough guns, they're going to quit offering guns altogether.
Instead of selling guns, those stores will sell more sporting goods that accurately reflect the community's demands. If stores are not selling enough guns, but can't keep soccer gear on the shelf, then they'll add to the soccer stock.
However, according to Hilda Rios, store manager for the Wal-Mart on Gail Gardner Way, no stores in Prescott will halt gun sales.
It's a good idea if a company with the buying power of Wal-Mart can begin to carry more fitness equipment than guns, which might shrink the ever-expanding American gut. Maybe it should think about halting video game system sales, too.
Bottom line: If you want to buy a gun, go to a gun shop.
