4/11/2006 4:00:00 AM Prescott's draw lends reminder
It's that time of year again. The mercury has hit the 70-degree mark, which means that herds of Phoenicians will be venturing north to visit Prescott.
Feature articles also will appear in nationwide publications about our small town atmosphere, historical museums, and courthouse plaza during the next few months.
These articles will mention our beautiful forests, mountains and lakes. We can attribute some of this good press to the basic fact that Prescottonians and their neighbors have done an excellent job of preserving our area's frontier-style history.
The greater Prescott region has drawn visitors from other parts of the country since the late 1800s, which has undoubtedly had a positive effect on our quality of life.
However, if we hope to keep the hordes of visitors coming to our neck of the woods, we must continue to keep our forests clean, prevent forest fires, promote our rich history, value our talented community artists, and exercise a little patience with some of the more undesirable characters.
Most locals already do most of these things, but a friendly reminder never hurts anyone. And if you aren't familiar with our local attractions, go ahead and check them out. You'll be glad you did.
The next time your blood pressure rises, just take a deep breath and remember that you could be living someplace else in Arizona places that are hotter, smoggy and/ormore crowded.
