Breaking News: Sundogs eliminate Mavs in 2OT, advance to Final Four
The Arizona Sundogs are moving on to the semifinals of the Central Hockey League playoffs.

Arizona, the eighth seed, came from behind to upset the top-seeded Missouri Mavericks, 4-3, in double overtime of Game 6 to win the opening-round CHL playoff series, four games to two, Tuesday night in Independence, Mo.

Kevin Baker scored the game winner with 51.3 seconds left in the second OT.

Prescott track's Fraher 1st, Reed 2nd at Westside Invite
The Badgers picked up some strong individual finishes Saturday at the Westside Invitational at Deer Valley High School in Glendale.

Claren Fraher placed first in the 800 with a time of 2:22. For the boys, Perry Reed took second in the high jump with a personal-best effort of 6-feet 2-inches, which qualified him for a spot at state next month in Mesa.

Matt Mendibles' walk-off base hit with the bases loaded won it in the bottom of the seventh inning for the Badgers Saturday afternoon at PHS.

Starting pitcher Jayce Cirzan held the Saguaro bats in check over his six innings, fanning four.

PRESCOTT VALLEY, Arizona - If the eighth-seeded Arizona Sundogs can upset the top-seeded Missouri Mavericks in the first round of the Central Hockey League playoffs, they'll have to do it at the Independence Events Center. The Mavs assured themselves a return to their home ice with a 3-1 victory Friday night before 2,714 fans at Tim's Toyota Center to even the best-of-seven series at two victories apiece.

The Badgers remained unbeaten in D-2, Section 5 Friday, doubling up Kingman to improve their record to 3-0.

D-2 No. 26-ranked Prescott (12-8 overall, 7-3 in power-point games) hosts Scottsdale Saguaro at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Dallas Riggs went 5-for-5 with a double, a home run and three RBIs as No. 3-ranked Bradshaw Mountain topped Coconino Friday in Flagstaff.

Bradley Denny started on the mound and went 5-1/3 innings. The Bears led 5-2, but the Panthers rallied in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extras

The Badgers won eight out of nine matches to clinch this win Friday in Flagstaff.

The run began in singles with wins for No. 1 Kennedi Todd (6-2, 4-6, 10-6), No. 2 Sarah Jane Schott (6-2, 6-4), No. 3 Ellie Foreste (6-2, 6-3), No. 4 Lauren Mazzella (6-2, 6-3), No. 5 Morgan Feingold (6-4, 1-6, 10-7) and No. 6 Margo Schultz (6-2, 6-2).

Coco softball hangs 17 runs on Bradshaw
Bradshaw Mountain's overall record dipped to 8-12 and 1-1 in D-2, Section 5 after Coconino run-ruled the hosts in six innings Friday afternoon.

The Panthers led 5-1 through three innings prior to scoring six runs in the fourth and five more in sixth to blow open the game. Coconino registered a total of 15 hits, while the Lady Bears managed only three.

Bagdad sweeps Ash Fork; 100th win for coach
A doubleheader sweep at home on Friday gave Bagdad baseball coach Dalton Mills his 100th career victory.

The Sultans, ranked No. 17 in Division 4, blanked Ash Fork 10-0 in the first game behind the starting pitching of Kody Low, who allowed just two hits and three walks while striking out eight. Low also batted 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

During a busy stretch with three matches in five days, the Badgers topped Kingman Thursday at PHS.

In singles play, No. 2 Sarah Jane Schott, No. 4 Lauren Mazzella, No. 5 Morgan Feingold and No. 6 Margo Schultz all won. Official scores were not immediately available.

Chino Valley was blistering Coronado in the top of the fourth inning Thursday in Scottsdale before a gas leak at the high school forced the field to be evacuated and the game to be suspended.

PV Speedway gears up for more matinee racing this Saturday
Hobby stocks, super stocks, mini stocks and Prescott Valley dwarf cars will race at the PV Speedway starting at 1 p.m. Saturday.

This will represent the second races of the dirt track speedway's 2014 season, which opened last weekend.

Sundogs rally for win over top-seeded Mavs, claim 2-1 series lead
PRESCOTT VALLEY - Ladies and gentlemen, the Arizona Sundogs are off the schneid in the Central Hockey League playoffs.

The eighth-seeded Sundogs scored three unanswered goals in the second period en route to a 3-1 come-from-behind win over the No. 1 seed Missouri Mavericks Wednesday at Tim's Toyota Center.

David Statler throws out the ceremonial first pitch to kick off Opening Day for the Dewey-Humboldt Little League this past Saturday at Mayer Elementary School. Statler started playing in the league in 1954, and his father, Walter G. Statler, was one of the founding board members for the league. The first pitch was caught by Dave's grandson, Gage Statler.

Prescott boys 1st, girls 2nd at first track & field home meet
With 133 points, the Prescott High boys' track and field team handily won its home multiple Tuesday against Bradshaw Mountain, Chino Valley, Mayer and Sedona Red Rock at Bill Shepard Field.

On the girls' side, Red Rock claimed first place with 115 points, maneuvering past second-place Prescott, which tallied 91 points.

Prescott High names Schmitt new girls' basketball coach
Chuck Schmitt will take over as coach of Prescott High's varsity girls' basketball team, the school's athletic director confirmed late this past week.

PHS A.D. Mark Goligoski said Schmitt, who mentored Chino Valley High's varsity boys' basketball squad in 2013-14, is a natural fit for the program in the wake of coach Missy Townsend's departure in late March.

Chino Valley beat Holbrook 16-3 on Saturday before falling to Florence 5-2. The Florence loss capped a 1-4 run at the tournament.

The Badgers found themselves down 4-0 after one inning and tried to rally the rest of the way Saturday in Prescott.

PHS would chip into the lead with two runs in the fourth inning, but Liberty scored at least one run in the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh innings, including a 3-spot in the top of the sixth.

One-time Yavapai College baseball recruit Tarik Skuba sparkled to shut out the Sultans in Bagdad Friday.

The senior left-hander, who in February of this year originally committed to Yavapai for 2014-15 but instead has officially committed to Seattle University according to his Twitter account, tossed a three-hitter against Bagdad.

Two wins from Brandon Klever helped the Badgers edge Cactus Shadows in this Friday win in Prescott.

Klever picked up a win at No. 5 singles with a hard-fought 1-6, 7-6, 10-6 win, and then teamed up with Jake Schulte for a key 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.
