The Daily Courier
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service recalled 1.25 million pounds of ready-to-eat varieties of Italian sausage and salami produced by Daniel International, Inc. because of the risk of salmonella contamination.
Stores sold the salami, sausage, sopressata, and capoccolo products under the Daniele, Dietz & Watson and Boar's Head brand names. Each package bears a label with establishment number "EST. 9992" or "EST. 54" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
For more information on products involved in the recall and cases of salmonella, visit http://www.cdc.gov/salmonella/montevideo/index.html.
"Products recalled due to this outbreak may have been distributed in Yavapai County, so consumers should be aware of the risk," said Cecil Newell, Yavapai County environmental health unit manager.
Five confirmed cases of salmonella in Arizona have been linked to this outbreak and 207 cases nationwide, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
If you bought a recalled product, please return it to the store where you bought it.
People infected with salmonella often develop diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps 12 to 72 hours after infection. The illness usually lasts four to seven days, and most people recover without treatment.
However, if the diarrhea becomes severe, a person may require hospitalization and antibiotics, to assure that the infection does not spread to the bloodstream.
Older people, infants, and those with impaired immune systems may develop more severe illness.
If you ate a recalled product, and believe you have salmonella symptoms, please contact your doctor.

This is about Salami and not some Roquefort cheese from Kraft. Anyway, U.S. can never match Europe as far as quality and selection of deli items. Next time lets talk Yoghurts. American think that they have yoghurts because is called Yoplait. Just another american spinoff of a good European tradition. Americans will just do anything to make a buck..and the buck isn't worth that much for that reason. ...

You are all so silly! You can buy Roquefort cheese from France right here in America, along with Gruyere, English Stilton, and every international delicacy,if you know how to shop and cook.Boar's Head (and there sister Co's)is a mass produced, cheap company that stuffs their wares are full of nitrates and nasty chemicals to hide the poor quality. Take some cooking classes, my dears.

You would not only loose but would be a waste of my time. When I traveled you were still learning your first and only language. Your arrogance speaks for itself no wonder the world does give you a cold shoulder.Que baboso.

Flight Rules 101=Common Sense (which some obviously dont have)
To the self titled, Cosmopolitan: Everyone knows the cheese from "cheeseville" is far better than the cheese from cheeseland or even cheesebough, any well-traveled person should know that. As for me giving Americans a bad name, you must have mistaken my sarcasm for my actions. I am tired of people blaming the TSA for their actions. Everyone knows we can only bring certain things on-board the plane, but yet some still ignore the rules and try anyway, then stomp their feet and complain about how the TSA violated their rights when the TSA finds items that are prohibited. The TSA is obviously looking for something that could be a threat, and they are trained to know more about that threat than you and I. (SO here is my point)..when the TSA goes through our cheese or any other items that we bring on-board the plane that could hide a POTENTIAL weapon of ANY kind (visible by xray or not visible by xray), they are acting on the training they get from our countrys intelligence on what to look for and rules and laws set in place by the same people WE elected. If you dont like that, dont fly. After all my travels, I have a little common sense and carry-on only a few small things that I NEED for the flight. I dont need gourmet cheese or salamis for the flight, so I check those in my luggage and they dont get confiscated. It is very simple really. The way we travel has changed and will never be the same as it was before 2001. It doesn't matter what we did for the past 30 years, we ALL need to change with the times, and what is best for our safety. As far as Cosmo goes: lets share passport stamps sometime, and see who is the real traveler.

You have obviously no travel experience and to bring string cheese from "cheesville" will not score you any points.
People like you make a bad name for Americans overseas and in the name of a good reputation Americans left today, please stay in Yavapai county and get your string cheese at a local Safeway.Baboso.

I have been bringing salami here for 30 years. It is in a suitcase and any(one) and plus screener with see-through vision can see inside.

I tried to bring string cheese on the plane from cheeseville that had wires coming from it, and the "paranoid and crazy" TSA stopped me. The nerve of them, stopping me because I have cheese that looks like a bomb. I should sue the goverment for keeping me safe from people trying to kill me. Get a clue, you cant bring ANYTHING on any plane that could hide/conceal/disguise explosive making materials. That could be your kids clay, your cheese, etc. Marcello and Tony, get some common sense when you travel. You are annoying to everyone else in line because you slow the line down for eveyone else that doesn't bring cheese, salami, or guns on board the plane. Marcello, if you need help packing, let me know, I will help you pack. Just remember, no cheese or large tubes of salami on board the plane.

Isn't it funny how Boars Head and Dietz/Watson each claim to have the best deli products, and we find out that they come from the same distributor?

Marcello I hear you! My last flight home from kansas city I was bringing some gourmet cheeses with me. TSA took me aside and went through all my things and unpackaged my cheese and cut it up into little pieces acting like they found the mother load!! then put it back in the wrappers and gave my stuff back and said have a good day you can go. I was like what the??? its cheese...... I felt totally violated I should a sent a bill to the crazies at the TSA it was 50 some dollars worth of cheese.

Sad.Americans cannot make a safe product to eat and when I try to bring some Italian Salamis from Europe the paranoid TSA confiscates it for reasons unknown.
I am selling my propertis and can't wait to move back to Italy. This country is nuts.
