PRESCOTT

Acker Trust Board

The City of Prescott's Acker Trust is now accepting grant applications from eligible nonprofit organizations. In accordance with the will of J.S. Acker, nonprofit organizations that promote "music and parks, especially for the children of Prescott" are encouraged to apply for financing for fiscal year 2011 (July 1, 2010, to June 30, 2011). The application deadline is Feb. 26, 2010. Applications are available on the City of Prescott website, www.cityofprescott.net/services/parks/admin, or at the Parks, Recreation and Library Programming office, 824 E. Folk Happens!

Contra Dance

The Folk Happens! Contra Dance will take place Friday, March 5, at the Grace Sparkes Activity Center, 824 E. Gurley St. The regular contra dance will start at 7:30 p.m. with introductory lessons; the dance runs from 8 to 10:30 p.m. Partners are not necessary, and families are welcome. Cost is $7 for the general public, and $5 for Folk Happens! members or students and teachers from other Arizona contra groups. For more information, call 445-3496 or visit www.folkhappens.org.

Yoga Class

Yoga classes take place from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. every Tuesday and Thursday at the Grace Sparkes Activity Center gym, 824 E. Gurley St. Remaining dates in this session are Feb. 18, 23 and 25. Cost is $40. Register at the Grace Sparkes Activity Center. For further information, call 777-1122.

TrekAbout Hiking Club

Trekabout Hiking Club meets from 8 to 9 a.m. every Tuesday and from

Square Dancing

Mile High Square Dancers are offering square dance classes on Sunday evenings at the Grace Sparkes Activity Center, 824 E. Gurley St. Workshops are available. Classes start at 6 p.m. Partners are not necessary and families are welcome. Dress is casual and smooth-soled shoes work best. For more information, call Carol at 717-2471.

Special Olympic Basketball Volunteers

The City of Prescott Special Needs Activity Program (S.N.A.P.) is currently looking for volunteers interesting in helping with the Special Olympic basketball. For more information, call Cindy at 777-1554 or register with the City of Prescott Parks and Recreation office, 824 E. Gurley St.

PRESCOTT VALLEY

The Town of Prescott Valley's Parks and Recreation Department plans season two of the Adult Volleyball League for men, women and coed teams. Games will be played at Glassford Hill Middle School starting March 8, with an eight-game guarantee. The deadline for late registration is 4 p.m. Feb. 22 at the Parks and Recreation office on the fourth floor of the Civic Center, 7501 E. Civic Circle. The cost is $145. The Town of Prescott Valley Parks and Recreation Department has a lineup of programs for people to take advantage of, including yoga and tai chi, hula dance, youth tap, beginner and intermediate ballet, basketball hoops spring instruction, acronastix, martial arts, guitar and "piano for hopelessly busy people." AARP Tax Preparation

AARP offers free tax preparation Mondays and Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Chino Valley Senior Center. Call 636-9114.

Walk for Fitness

Walk for Fitness takes place Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10 a.m. at the Chino Valley Senior Center. All ages are welcome; there is no fee. Call 636-9114.

Drop-in Basketball

Ages 15 and older are welcome to play basketball Saturdays from 7 to 9 a.m. at Chino Valley High School. Participation is free of charge. For information, call 636-9780.

Wii Bowling

Wii Bowling is 9:30 a.m. Mondays at Chino Valley Senior Center. There is no charge to play. For information, call 636-9114.

Painting Class

Classes are 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Chino Valley Senior Center. Cost: $2 per class. All supplies included. For information, call 636-9114.

Pilates

Pilates classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 to 9 a.m., 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. at the Activity Center, 1527 N. Road 1 East. Cost: $3 per class; pre-registration required. For information, call Linda Truman at 636-0162.

Pinochle Games

Play pinochle 12:30 p.m. Wednesdays at the Chino Valley Senior Center. There is no charge to play. For information, call 636-9114.

Kung Fu San Soo

The ancient Chinese art of self-defense is presented by Chino Valley Kung Fu San Soo in association with the Chino Valley Parks and Recreation. Adult classes: Mondays and Saturdays from 9 to 11 a.m.; Wednesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. Youth classes: Mondays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Cost: $50 monthly; $25 for a second family member; $100 for an entire family.
