Events at the Prescott YMCA

Check out all of the fun activities going on at the Prescott YMCA at www.prescottymca.org, or call 334-7221.

Purchase YMCA gift certificates in any amount and use them for memberships, personal training or specialty classes.

The YMCA offers the Holiday Fitness Challenge through Jan. 2. Challenge yourself to stay physically active and maintain your current weight during the holidays while competing against other members.

Youth Winter Fitness Camp for kids ages 9-13 is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Dec. 28-31. Participants will have fun while improving motor skills and functional fitness skills. They will also learn about well-balanced meals and how to make better food choices.

Swimming lessons return to the YMCA in January. Classes for kids 3 and up will be offered Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Registration begins Monday, Dec. 14.

Holiday Camp for school-age children will be available form 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 21-31, except Christmas Eve, when childcare will close at 1 p.m.

Tai Chi Chuan with QiGong classes are every Tuesday and Thursday through December. This form of martial arts exercise increases flexibility and strength while improving balance and coordination. Master Joe Byrne will lead participants through the exercises that will also strengthen the nervous system to help reduce stress and ward off disease.

A new Jiu-jitsu class runs through Dec. 22. The class meets Tuesdays at 7:15 p.m. Jiu-jitsu is the most effective self-defense class for the majority of people. Teenagers and older are welcomed to join this class.

The YMCA offers Ladies Hoops at 4 p.m. every Sunday. You will get a great cardio workout while learning and playing basketball. This class is great for beginners and for experienced players. Our coach will lead you in drills and scrimmages.
