The Prescott 9-10 Little League baseball team is determined to have a changing of the guard in the District Tournament.
After losing to defending champion Verde Valley 8-1 on Thursday, Prescott re-emerged from the losers' bracket with a win over Chino Valley on Friday night. Then they beat Verde Valley 8-7 in thrilling fashion on Saturday to force a winner-take-all game on Monday.
The boys from Prescott lost an early 4-1 lead and found themselves running out of outs and down 7-4 in the fifth.
Prescott scored a pair in the fifth, including a solo homer by Jake Eder, to cut the lead to 7-6. In its final at-bat, Christian Gamboa led off with a walk, followed by a Kolten Jones single. Garrett Shulz walked to load the bases and Jose Chairez walked to tie the game.
Finally, Eder singled to extend to Monday night's championship game.
Eder also went 4 2/3 with seven strikeouts, combining with Tristen Soto on the mound. Matt Moro went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while Reese Anderson was the defensive star, throwing out a runner at the plate to stem the tide in the fourth inning.
