Governor Fife Symington pulled a hoax when he announced the Department of Public Safety would investigate the reports of UFO sightings over Phoenix. "Coy Carey's alligator is probably not so young and unsophisticated as some supposed, as an authority on alligators says: 'The alligator is long lived, and his growth is of the slowest. An alligator two feet long is at least 15-years-old, while a 12-foot specimen may be anywhere from 75 to 150 years old.' We may need to bow our heads to the most senior member of our community as it crawls on its aged belly."

"The prisoner, Perfecto Espinosa, succeeded in getting his liberty at last. Some party broke into jail a few nights since and released him. He took his shackles with him as a memento of his happy days spent in jail. We begin to think that our jail is a farce on justice. Perhaps it should be renamed as a lodging from which anyone is free to check out without any prior notice, at their whim and leisure."
