When the Riegner family saw smoke several miles away from their Cathedral Pines subdivision home on the afternoon of May 15, 2002, "we were concerned but not overly concerned," Mark Riegner recalled.

Mark and his wife Veronica had friends visiting, so they took them on a tour of Prescott College where Riegner teaches tropical ecology. He gathered important papers and photos to bring along and leave at the college for safekeeping, since he was preparing for another work trip to Costa Rica.

What's your take on a new Prescott jail?

Please select one:
The county should just renovate the existing jail.
Building a new jail makes more long-term sense than trying to bring the old one up to code.
They should stick with using the Camp Verde jail, even if it's inconvenient.
